Our Large Intestines complete the digestive process, releasing physical waste. Just as the trees around us shed their leaves, our bodies are primed to cleanse and release. This season invites us to create order, find clarity, and prepare for the quiet stillness of winter.

Caring for the Body: Nourish, Hydrate, and Strengthen

The cooler, drier air of autumn can directly impact our physical well-being, particularly the skin, throat, lungs, and digestion. Our focus now shifts to building immunity and providing deep nourishment.

  • Immune-Strengthening Foods: Autumn is the harvest season, providing hearty foods, soups, and roasted root veggies to build resilience for winter. Favor seasonal, warming foods like squash, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, carrots, apples, and pears.

  • Counteract Dryness: Include moistening foods to support your tissues. Pears, honey, sesame seeds, walnuts, and mushrooms are excellent choices.

  • Support Lung Qi: Use pungent spices like ginger, garlic, onion, and cinnamon to stimulate lung function and promote healthy circulation.
